The Subagent Tax, Measured: 23,747 Turns of Real Billing Data
The popular claim is that fanning out to subagents costs four to six times the tokens. Across 23,747 of my own billed turns, subagents were 12.8% of the turns and 4.6% of the bill. Both numbers are correct, and why they disagree is the whole story.
